West Chinnock Playschool

West Chinnock Playschool was established by a committed group of parents keen to provide pre-school education and fun for the under fives.

Since it began in 1999, the Playschool has flourished and now attracts children from neighbouring villages as well as from West Chinnock itself.

The success of the Playschool is due in large part to its dedicated staff who bring so much creativity and warmth to the setting. Under their care, the children acquire vital social skills and, through the diversity of play, grow in confidence and self-esteem.

Our qualified Play Leader Denise Cox, with the help of her assistants Heather Harper and Carly Chilcott help plan and supervise the children's learning, monitoring their progress and gently guiding their development. They work closely with the Early Years teachers, thus ensuring that activities are co-ordinated with the school's curriculum, teaching style and methods.

The Playschool is located in the main school hall and sessions run from 9.15am to 12.15pm every weekday and lunchclub until 1pm on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday to help prepare our little ones for communal eating at school. Children are accepted from the age of two to four years. Class numbers naturally fluctuate but to no more than a maximum of 18 children, ensuring a high staff to pupil ratio.

The Playschool is extremely fortunate in its setting, making the most of the play area, mud kitchen and beautiful Community Garden whenever possible. The children make visits to Class One to share snack time with the school children, which is thoroughly enjoyed by both parties! These links have proved invaluable in easing the transition from playschool to primary school when the time comes.
